Monaco

sunny 31 °C

Just got back from a day trip to Monaco. Caught a bus from Nice for 1 euro each. The trip took about 45 mins. Very mountainous terrain. You couldn't imagine building towns within the hills that surround the coastline.

There were quite a few large boats in the marina and many more smaller ones. Some of the larger three story boats had speed boats and jet skis within a compartment on the bottom layer and a spa on the top story. We also went for a look at the casino. It is the one that featured in the James bond film Casino Royale a couple of years back. Unfortunately for Phillip we couldn't go in as we were not dressed in smart attire. Similarly the other few hundred tourists and ourselves had to settle with observations of the cars parked outside the casino entrance. Bentleys , Aston martins, Mercedes and one lone Toyota Rav 4 were madly being photographed.

After we left the casino and had headed toward the marina we noticed a crowd of people surrounding a Mercedes. This car was one that we had noticed at the casino. Phillip had commented at the time that he thought it was a new flash model. After a while more people started swarming the car. Phillip and Shane went over to see who it was. There were two police escorts and a convertible with 3 paparazzi photographers leaning out towards the rear of the car. I couldn't tell who it was and it was looking like a media stunt because if they didn't want people around the car surely the police could have escorted the car away. When Phillip returned I asked who it was. He replied that it was some wannabee. He was kidding! It was Michael Schumacher. Phillip and Shane were quite thrilled.

Funnily enough today was the second occasion that we have arrived in a town and Shane has known where things are and the terrain in these areas. Firstly Barcelona's port is featured in a skateboard playstation game by Tony hawks and today the Monaco Grand prix which features in a game f104 or something like that.

It was a nice day. We should have taken our swimmers as they had a public pool in the middle of the marina. Anyway we are going to go and have a maccas chicken Caesar salad down at the beach and the kids can go in for a swim. Had to send home another two boxes of excess clothes and a couple of souvenirs. Altogether we have now sent About 27 kgs home.

You better be carefull about sending so much stuff home the AFP might swoop on you at the airport thinking you are drug smugglers. It sounds like you are all having a ball. Not much happening here all you hear about is the Election. I can't wait till it's over. I assume you know the election is the 28th August. Anyway be safe and have fun.
PS Mini is fine PJ rang Emily last night.
